Exercise of the Day

If you were going to do only one exercise today, or everyday, let it be the Cat Stretch.
(This is not the pose that is accompanied with the cow pose, aka cat/cow vinyasa yoga exercise which is done on all fours, hands and knees, although it is also a good one).
When you wake up in the morning, this can be a puuurrrrr-fect time to do it.

It begins by you lying on your back. Easy. Good!

Next, you stretch the arms above the head, or at a 90 degree angle to your body with palms facing down, while remaining on the floor (or in your bed if it happens to be a really firm one).

Keeping both shoulders on the floor, bring one knee up with the sole of your foot beside the kneecap, and then bend it over to the opposite side of the body as you aim to bring the knee as far over as possible or comfortable for you.

For additional benefits (if you are already quite limber), you may turn your head and neck in the opposite direction of the bent leg.

This is an excellent spinal stretch and twist that is beneficial in keeping the spine flexible and young. It works on the lower back and hips, and is extremely powerful in alleviating pressure in hip bones for women. This exercise also tones the pelvic and abdominal organs.

Sometimes, simple is good.
